What it has is a question — not about generosity, but about the strange, inexplicable behaviour of people on the internet. Why do strangers do anything for each other? Why does anyone click anything? Why are you still reading this?

Nobody knows. That's the point. The internet is full of people doing odd, pointless, beautiful things for reasons that don't hold up under scrutiny. This is one of those things. The question is whether enough strangers find that interesting enough to put a pound behind it.
